ChessGrammar is published in beta. Definitions, identifiers and the organisation of the catalogue may still evolve. Claims already published remain tied to the edition under which they were established.
The taxonomy edition
The edition identifies the map of domains, the objects, their names, their variants and their relations within the reference. The edition in force is shown in the header of every page and recorded in each entry. In the header, the edition capsule links to this page.
A new edition may add an object, move it, rename it, merge or split its variants, or change a boundary. Each of these changes is recorded in the edition, together with its consequences for existing records.
What beta means
While the reference is in beta, identifiers, slugs, groupings and variant names are provisional. They may be renamed, merged, split or renumbered when the grammar is corrected.
The number v3.0 identifies the current taxonomy edition. Beta describes how stable its identifiers are. During the beta, a verified record remains verified. Its claim remains tied to the edition under which it was checked.
Record provenance
A record must make it possible to recover the definition and the edition to which its claim belongs. Verified examples also keep the provenance of their verification.
A verification is not carried forward automatically when the definition changes. It is reviewed or measured again when the change may affect what the record guarantees.
Citing during beta
A citation should give the record’s URL, its identifier and its edition. The citation formats offered on each record include these elements.
Because identifiers remain provisional, check links and bookmarks against later editions before you rely on them.
Reporting an error
If a definition, a status or an identifier appears wrong, use the Contact page. Include the record’s URL or identifier and the edition displayed.
