Combination
A forcing sequence, usually opened by a sacrifice, that reaches a stated gain the opponent cannot avoid.
A combination is read as a whole, so material given up along the way counts against the gain at the end. The catalogue does not name combinations as such. It names the motifs a combination is built from, one per record, and the sequence on a record shows the motif in its shortest form.
