Exchange
A capture answered by a recapture, weighed by the value of the pieces that leave the board.
An exchange is even when the two sides lose the same value, and favourable to the side that gives less than it takes. The reference reads a capture against the fullest sequence of exchanges available on its square, and not against the first recapture alone. A piece that looks free may cost a piece of the same value two captures later.
