Threat
A move available to the side to move that would gain something if the opponent did not answer it.
A threat is read one move ahead. If the opponent passed, the threatened move would win material, deliver mate or reach another stated outcome. A double threat is two such moves that the opponent cannot parry at once. Whether a threat succeeds depends on the opponent’s best reply.
